n8n Cost: Cloud Pricing and Self-Hosting in 2026

n8n cost depends on who runs it. n8n Cloud bundles the application and hosting into a subscription. The self-hosted Community Edition has no software subscription fee, subject to its license, but you still pay for a server, backups, external services and the time needed to operate it. A small VPS bill is only one part of the budget.

This guide compares n8n pricing in 2026, explains workflow execution limits and gives you a worksheet for comparing cloud and self-hosted costs. Pricing was checked on October 19, 2026. inCloudServer sells VPS infrastructure; our plans do not include a preinstalled or fully managed n8n application.

n8n pricing: Cloud plans and self-hosted software

The figures below are euros per month, billed annually, as displayed on the official n8n pricing page. They are monthly equivalents of an annual commitment, not month-to-month quotes. Currency, tax, billing term and execution allowance can change the amount payable.

Pricing tier Annual-billing monthly equivalent Included execution allowance Where it runs
Starter plan €20 2,500 executions/month Hosted by n8n
Pro €50 10,000 executions/month Hosted by n8n
Business plan €667 40,000 executions/month Self-hosted; infrastructure is additional
Enterprise plan Custom quote Contract-specific Cloud or self-hosted
Community Edition No software subscription fee No paid execution allowance to purchase for the core edition; infrastructure capacity still limits throughput Your own environment

Business and Enterprise are paid software options, not requirements for every self-hosted installation. Check the features you actually need before choosing an n8n pricing plan. Enterprise pricing is custom, so include both the license quote and operating costs when comparing it with a cloud plan.

How workflow executions affect your n8n bill

n8n’s paid pricing model centers on workflow executions rather than charging for every individual step. An execution is a run of a workflow. A long workflow and a short workflow can therefore have the same headline execution count, while consuming very different amounts of CPU, memory and external API usage.

Start with a monthly execution estimate before comparing plans. Count how often each production trigger starts a workflow, then allow for retries, errors and testing. Check n8n’s current billing rules for the types of runs you use; do not assume every manual test, sub-workflow or special trigger is treated identically.

Illustrative schedule 30-day execution estimate Budget implication
One scheduled workflow every hour 24 × 30 = 720 A useful baseline for a small reporting job
One scheduled workflow every 15 minutes 4 × 24 × 30 = 2,880 Already above the listed Starter allowance, before other workflows
One scheduled workflow every five minutes 12 × 24 × 30 = 8,640 Leaves limited headroom within a 10,000-run allowance
500 incoming events each day 500 × 30 = 15,000 Compare a larger allowance with a self-hosted option

These are arithmetic examples, not measurements of a customer installation. Each assumes one execution per scheduled trigger or incoming event. Separate workflows, retry behavior and implementation choices can change the count. An event-based design may avoid unnecessary polling executions when the source application supports webhooks.

Execution count does not measure workload size

A text notification and a large file-processing job may each start one n8n workflow. The second can need much more memory, disk space or processing time. Likewise, 100 jobs spread across a day behave differently from 100 concurrent jobs. For self-hosted n8n, size for peak resource use as well as the monthly total.

What does self-hosting n8n actually cost?

The n8n Community Edition is free to download and use within the terms of the Sustainable Use License. That does not make the operating environment free. Review the license and paid-feature requirements for your intended use, especially if you are providing access to other businesses.

A realistic self-hosting budget has six lines:

  1. Server costs. CPU, RAM and storage for n8n, its database, the operating system and any other services sharing the machine.
  2. Backups and recovery. Retained copies of the database, persistent files and configuration, plus a secure recovery process for encryption keys and credentials.
  3. Monitoring. Alerts for availability, failed jobs, resource exhaustion and expiring certificates.
  4. External services. AI models, email delivery, paid APIs, proxies or storage used by your workflows.
  5. Administration. Installation, updates, security patches, troubleshooting and restore testing.
  6. Optional paid software. An n8n license or another component if the required features are outside the free edition.

Use the official guide to self-hosting n8n to understand the operational requirements. The server owner needs the skills to deploy and maintain the application. Managed hosting at the server layer does not automatically include repairing workflows, maintaining custom nodes or managing application credentials.

A lower server price can create a higher operating cost

Choosing the smallest available VPS can leave too little room for concurrent jobs, binary data or the database. A memory-related failure during a customer-facing automation can cost more time than the monthly saving. Start with a representative test, monitor resource use and retain capacity for peaks. Our n8n VPS hosting page explains the available infrastructure and setup responsibilities; the VPS RAM guide helps budget the whole stack.

n8n Cloud vs self-hosted: a monthly cost worksheet

Compare both cash spending and the value of your team’s time. The following example uses hypothetical US-dollar amounts for illustration. It is not an inCloudServer quote, a currency conversion of n8n pricing or a benchmark.

Self-hosting budget item Illustrative monthly amount
VPS infrastructure $30
Backup storage $5
Monitoring $0 using an existing tool
External API usage $10
Community Edition subscription $0, assuming eligible use and no paid features required
Cash spending $45
One hour of administration valued at $50/hour $50
Total including that time $95

For the cloud side, enter your actual subscription quote in the same currency and billing period, add the same external API spending, then budget application maintenance. n8n Cloud removes server administration, but someone still needs to maintain business logic, investigate failed automations and control API costs.

Your comparison: cloud subscription + external services + workflow maintenance, versus self-hosted software + infrastructure + recovery + external services + server and workflow maintenance. Include initial setup separately, or spread it over the number of months you expect to use the system.

Hidden costs to check before committing

  • Annual billing: a monthly equivalent can require a larger upfront payment.
  • Overlapping tools: an n8n subscription does not pay the bills from services that its workflows call.
  • Data growth: retained execution data and uploaded files can increase storage and backup requirements.
  • Recovery work: a backup that has never been restored is an untested assumption.
  • Access features: collaboration, governance and other paid capabilities can change the software budget.

Which setup should you choose?

Choose n8n Cloud when speed of setup and avoiding server operations matter more than server-level control. This is often the practical starting point when there is no Linux administrator on the team. Use the current n8n Cloud pricing page to compare the execution allowance and features for your workload.

Consider self-hosting when you need control over deployment, integrations or infrastructure, and have someone accountable for maintaining it. The free Community Edition can reduce software spending, but the case should still work after adding administration and recovery costs.

Consider paid self-hosted software when required collaboration or governance features justify a Business or Enterprise license. The presence of a paid license does not make the underlying server managed.

n8n cost FAQ

Is n8n free?

The self-hosted Community Edition has no software subscription fee for eligible use. Hosting, paid features, external services and administration can still cost money. Read the license and feature comparison before treating your entire deployment as free.

Does n8n charge per task or per execution?

The main paid pricing model uses workflow executions rather than a charge per individual step. Confirm the counting rules and allowance for the plan you buy, especially for complex workflows and retries.

Is self-hosting always cheaper than n8n Cloud?

No. It depends on the required features, workload and cost of operating the system. An existing technical team may maintain a server efficiently; a team without that experience can spend more on setup and troubleshooting than it saves on subscriptions.

Does an inCloudServer VPS include n8n support?

A VPS supplies infrastructure. Do not assume n8n installation, workflow development, custom-node maintenance or application incident response is included. Review the current server management scope before ordering.
