The basics

A domain is your address on the internet.

Your domain is separate from the website itself. After choosing a domain, you can add a website builder, WordPress hosting, traditional hosting and professional email based on what you need.

1Check transfer eligibilityUse the domain search tool above.
2Review current cart pricingConfirm the registration or transfer term and renewal details shown in checkout.
3Add the services you needHosting, a website builder and email are separate choices.

Transfer with confidence

Understand the transfer before you move the domain.

Compare the practical details below before changing a long-term business address.

Transfer a domain without changing the website by accident

A domain transfer moves the domain registration from one registrar to another. It does not automatically move the website, email or DNS hosting. Plan those services separately so a registrar change does not become an unnecessary website or email migration.

Before starting a domain transfer

  • Confirm the domain is eligible to transfer under the current registry and registrar rules.
  • Make sure you can access the account and registration email/contact workflow used for transfer approval.
  • Obtain the authorization or transfer code when the domain requires one.
  • Review the domain’s lock/status and resolve any condition preventing transfer.
  • Document the current DNS/nameserver configuration before making unrelated changes.
  • Review the transfer term, price and renewal implications shown in the current checkout flow.

Will transferring the domain move the website?

No. The domain registrar and website host can be different companies. If DNS stays unchanged, the website can continue pointing to the same host while the registration moves. Avoid changing DNS at the same time unless the project specifically requires it.

Will transferring a domain move business email?

No. Email hosting and domain registration are separate. Keep the existing mail DNS records intact unless you are intentionally migrating email at the same time.

How long does a domain transfer take?

Transfer timing depends on the extension, current registrar, domain status and approval process. See our domain transfer timing guide for the factors that can delay a move.

Transfer or keep the domain where it is?

Transfer when consolidating registration makes account management easier or the new registrar better fits your needs. Keep the registration where it is when there is no practical reason to move it; you can still point DNS to inCloudServer hosting or email services without transferring the domain.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to transfer a domain to use inCloudServer hosting?

No. You can normally keep a domain with its existing registrar and update DNS to point to the hosting service you choose.

Does a transfer change nameservers automatically?

Do not assume it will. Record the current DNS configuration before the transfer and verify the resulting settings after completion.

Can every domain be transferred?

Transfer eligibility depends on the extension, current domain status and applicable registrar/registry rules. Use the live transfer flow to check the domain and current requirements.

Domain questions

Know what you are buying.

Does buying a domain create a website?

No. A domain gives you an internet address. You still need a website builder or hosting for the website itself.

Is professional email included with a domain?

Email is a separate product unless a specific current offer explicitly includes it. Review the cart before purchasing.

How much does a domain renew for?

Domain pricing and promotions change. Review the current registration and renewal information shown during checkout.

Can I keep a domain I already own?

Yes. You can generally keep it with the current registrar or transfer an eligible domain using the domain-transfer flow.
